A swimming ban has been put in place at Ballyalla Lake.
Clare County Council has issued the prohibition notice on a temporary basis on the advice of the HSE, after extreme thundershowers earlier in the week resulted in elevated levels of bacteria in the water.

The local authority says the situation is being monitored regularly and that the notice will be lifted, when the bacterial levels recede to acceptable levels.
