Suspected credit card fraud at property tax helpline

A worker on the property tax helpline has been suspended, after it emerged that credit card details were taken unnecessarily from eleven callers.

The Revenue Commissioners say they are "extremely concerned" to learn of the alleged attempted fraud by an employee at the outsourced call centre in Cork

Abtran – which operates the helpline for Revenue – says it became apparent on Thursday that an individual employee answering calls from the public had unnecessarily asked customers for credit card information.

Those affected are being contacted by Revenue and their credit card companies – and while an attempt to use the details may have been made, it was unsuccessful, and no-one suffered a loss.
