Surfing groups remain concerned over Doolin Pier development

Surfing groups who had opposed the construction of the new pier at Doolin say they continue to hold serious reservations about the project.

The West Coast Surf Club and the Irish Surfing Association have issued a statement to Clare FM saying they welcome the conclusion of the review by An Bord Pleanala, who have given the go ahead to the multi-million euro development in Doolin.

The surfing groups still claim the project will damage the surf environment in Doolin, despite an environmental study which said there’d be no significant impact, but they’ve offered to work with Clare County Council to minimise any negative effects.

Approval for the new Doolin Pier is receiving broad welcome among tourism and business interests in North Clare today, and John Burke of Hotel Doolin says it will be a real boost to the area.
