Surfers ‘Regret’ Pier Delays

The Lahinch based surfing group which has sucedded in its appeal against the Doolin Pier Development says it regrets any delay to construction.

It’s feared that the start up date for the 6 million euro project has now been pushed back another year after An Bord Pleanala ruled Clare County Council first needed an Environmental Impact Study- on foot of a submission from the West Coast Surf Club.

Work was expected to get underway later this year and be completed by the end of 2012 but there’s concern that construction will be pushed back until 2013 at the earliest.

In a statement the North Clare based surfing group insist its still the desire of the surfing community that a revised pier scheme should go ahead but were forced to object to the current project because of what they callled the lack of due process.
