Surf school operators in Lahinch say newly-introduced bye-laws from Clare County Council are damaging their trade, and could potentially lead to dangerous situations in the village.
Following the rise in surfing activities at the North Clare beach in the last decade, the Council had decided to introduce the bye-laws to make the promenade area safer for walkers, swimmers and other visitors.
Surf schools say the move has damaged the local surf industry and has put jobs at risk.
However, local representatives in the North Clare village say the new laws are designed to provide the best solution for all users of the beach, and feel they should remain in place.
