A new study predicts there will be unavoidable deaths at University Hospital Limerick unless a new hospital with an emergency department is built in Ennis.
The research paper, which has been completed by University of Limerick PhD student Sinéad Madden, recommends the construction of a new 352-bed Model Four hospital with an ED on a green field site in Clare’s county town.
The study uses recent Central Statistics Office data, making it more up-to-date than the Deloitte report on patient flow at University Hospital Limerick carried out two years ago.
Sinéad, who’s from Ennis, believes after conducting the study that a Covid-like response is needed from Government to address the Midwest healthcare crisis.
