Around 55 local pilgrims, led by Bishop Kieran O'Reilly and parish priest for Coolmeen and Kildysart Fr. Albert McDonell, formed part of the huge crowds in the Vatican for this morning's ceremony, presided by Pope Francis.
East Clare priest Fr. Brendan Quinlivan met John Paul II when he was pontiff, having been a student at the Irish College in Rome.
He feels his canonisation in particular holds a special resonance with people here.
