“Stringent Regulations” To Prevent Harm To Public Health From Proposed Clare Gas Reserve

One of the key figures behind Clare’s proposed Strategic Gas Emergency Reserve says the “stringent regulations” they have to comply with will protect public health.

The gas reserve intended to be built on a site at Cahiracon in Kildysart would provide a backup source of natural gas to Ireland in the event of a major supply disruption.

Gas Networks Ireland is aiming to apply for planning permission next year, begin construction by 2028 and have the project up and running in 2030.

Strategic Gas Emergency Reserve Programme Director with Gas Networks Ireland, Padraic O’Connell, says rules are in place to ensure safety is the top priority.
