The extreme status red warning issued for Clare has been extended to midday on Friday as this county prepares for a “powerful, standout, destructive” storm.
Storm Éowyn is due to make landfall in the early hours of Friday morning and Met Éireann is warning that gusts are likely to exceed 130 kilometres per hour in this county.
This will lead to extremely dangerous travelling conditions, wave overtopping, coastal flooding, fallen trees, widespread power outages and structural damage.
The majority of counties will now be under a status red warning with Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford now the only ones falling outside the advisory.
The red alert is in force from 3am to 12pm on Friday in Clare and Galway, while the whole country will be under a status orange wind warning until 5pm that day.
