Davy Fitzgerald is expected to confirm his decision to stand down as Clare Senior Hurling Manager this afternoon.
A statement on behalf of Fitzgerald is expected to bring an end to his time in the role that he's held since 2011.
Having starred as goalkeeper for Clare during the heyday of the 1990s, Davy Fitzgerald became the only Clareman to lift the Liam McCarthy as a player and manager when his side won the All-Ireland in 2013.
This year also saw the team claim the National League, but outside of those successes there have been criticisms of the team's Championship performances, and also their style of play.
This season came to an end with defeat to Galway, and last evening came the news that appears to confirm this will be his last game in charge of the county side.
The decision also comes following a reported meeting of players, at which it's understood a number of squad members voiced their view that he should go.
The Irish Examiner's John Fogarty broke the story last eevning.
While Fitzgerald experienced off-field health issues this year, Clare FM commentator Syl O'Connor believes on-field performances, and the lack of Championship success for Clare, will be the main factor in Fitzgerald's decision.
While Clare FM's Derrick Lynch says his contribution to Clare hurling can't be underestimated.
The statement which is expected to formally bring an end to Fitzgerald's tenure is expected this afternoon.
