Egypt’s President has declared a three-month state of emergency following bomb attacks on two Christian churches, in which at least 44 people died.

Islamic State says it was behind both blasts.

The first was in Tanta, about 60 miles north of Cairo – and the second was in the coastal city of Alexandria.

Yesterday, Pope Francis offered his condolences to the victims.
