The Injury Unit at St John’s Hospital has closed early today.
Patients with minor injuries are being asked to instead attend the Injury Units at Ennis Hospital (8am to 8pm) and Nenagh Hospital (8am to 8pm).
The early closure is due to staffing difficulties but HSE MidWest assures that the injury unit will be operating as usual from tomorrow.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, people presenting to the Emergency Department at UHL have been redirected to Injury Units and this remains the case. The hospitals group is seeing a high number of Covid and non-Covid patients attend ED.
As an alternative to attending ED, the HSE urges everyone to first consider the care options that are available in their own communities, including family doctors, out-of-hours GP services, and local pharmacies.
