Spring Defends Gilmore Motion As Kelly Seeks Labour Leadership

A member of the Labour group which was planning a motion of no-confidence in Eamon Gilmore yesterday has insisted they were right to look at taking action.

It follows criticism from Education Minister Ruairi Quinn, who believes they should have afforded Mr Gilmore some courtesy, and resents the planned heave.

Eamon Gilmore stepped down yesterday before the motion was submitted.

Meanwhile, as speculation surrounds a number of Labour members and whether they will seek the party’s leadership, the first candidate to publicly declare an interest in the role is Tipperary TD Alan Kelly.
