The National Council for Special Education is cutting the number of teaching hours for children with special needs.

It says the number of teaching posts remains the same – but a 10 per cent increase in the number of children with special needs, means an adjustment of 25 per cent on 2011 levels was necessary.
This September, a child with special needs that would have previously received 1 hour of extra teaching support – will get just 45 minutes.
The Irish National Teachers Organisation has described the cuts as "savage".
