Irish Water says it could be the end of the week at the earliest before a do not consume notice is lifted in parts of South East Clare.
7,500 Irish Water customers on the Shannon/Sixmilebridge public water supply are unable to drink from the mains for a third day, after high levels of manganese were detected in the supply over the weekend.
Residents are being warned that boiling the water won’t reduce manganese levels and that the supply should not be used for drinking, cooking or preparing bottles for infants.
Asset Operation Water Engineer at Irish Water, Oliver Harney, says works are ongoing to flush the system and that the utility will be in consultation with the HSE with a view to lifting the notice.
A South East Clare Councillor has hit out at Irish Water over the way in which the issue was communicated to those affected.
