Residents in South East Clare say they’re “very concerned” about the rejection of an appeal against a controversial biomass plant in the area.
Planning permission was granted to Carbon Sole Group Limited in 2021 for the construction of a renewable energy development in the Newmarket-on-Fergus townland of Stonehall, in spite of strong opposition from residents and various groups.
An appeal against the development lodged in August 2021 has now been rejected by An Bórd Pleanála, which means construction is likely to go ahead.
Sixmilebridge Independent Councillor PJ Ryan believes a judicial review is the only recourse locals have to prevent the unwanted development.
