A South East Clare Councillor is calling for NCT retests to be held in local garages by mechanics.
Last year, 52% of NCTs at Clare’s only testing centre failed with almost 3,000 cars failing dangerously.
In total, there were over 35,000 vehicles tested in the county last year and over 8% were graded to have a dangerous defect meaning they couldn’t be driven out of the test centre.
Cratloe Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat O’Gorman says minor faults could be checked in garages to free up long wait times at test centres.
