A south Clare retailer claims the Government’s plan to hike personal injury awards “flies in the face” of their pledge to support small businesses.
Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan is set to bring a memo to Cabinet proposing personal injury award guidelines be raised by nearly 17% following a recommendation by the Judicial Council in December.
Owner of Crowe’s Gala in Sixmilebridge and Vice-President of the Convenience Stores and Newsagents Association, Flora Crowe, has called the move “crazy” and claims it gives insurance companies a “carte blanche” to raise premiums.
She says it’ll force traders like her to raise prices.
