Some Clare Properties Could Be Without Power Until Next Week

The ESB is reassuring that crews will continue their response to Storm Éowyn until power is restored to every part of Clare.

Supply has been returned to around 29,000 customers in this county, following unprecedented storm damage four days ago and work is continuing today to fix issues on the network affecting the remaining 15,000 properties.

The ESB says all crews have been fully mobilised working long into night and out at first light every day since Friday.

This includes additional crews drafted in from other parts of country, as well as helicopters and drones patrolling lines to help find faults and speed up the process.

The ESB’s Technical Manager says a robust plan is in place to ensure no-one is left in the dark in this county and operations today are focussing on the Mullagh, Coore, the Hand, Leabasheeda, Tulla, Corofin and Scariff areas.

Michael Sammin is warning though, that due to the extent of the damage, some people will be waiting the best part of a week, if not longer, to have supply returned.

Meanwhile, communities across Clare have been coming together to ensure those in need have access to facilities and services.

The Armada Hotel is Spanish Point, which has been relying on a generator since power was lost on Friday morning, has opened a “Locals Lounge” where people can gather, recharge and relax.

They’ve been helping more than 200 people who have been cut off from electricity or water supply over the past number of days and will continue to do so for the coming days.

Manager Brendan Cahill says it’s the small things that mean the most to people when they don’t’ have access to basic facilities.

St Joseph’s Secondary School in Tulla has also opened it’s doors to the local community for people in need of water, hot drinks, showers or phone charging facilities.

Principal Juliet Coman says it’s been a difficult time for people but there’s great community spirit.
