New legislation which aims to ensure that social value is taken into account during a public procurement process looks set to be passed by TDs.

The legislation has been proposed by Kildare Fianna Fáil TD Frank O’Rourke, and is not being opposed by government.

Deputy O’Rourke hopes that his bill will see state entities, who spend around 12 billion euro a year on services, goods and works, use this money to boost their local communities.
