The Minister for Social Protection has said she doesn’t believe the country will go through a period of austerity in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Heather Humphreys insists that state supports for businesses and those who have lost their jobs will continue, as long as restrictions are in place.
She’s told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that she takes encouragement from the 75% drop in hospital admissions across the country since the peak in January and believes it’s a positive step that schools have re-opened this week.
Minister Humphreys expects there to be an increase in spending once restrictions are eased, saying there’s a high volume of savings and a lot of pent up demand.
