Social Housing Demand In Clare Rises By 10%

The level of housing need in Clare has risen by 10% in the space of a year.

New figures from Clare County Council show there are now over 1,400 households on the county’s social housing list which are not currently in receipt of any form of housing support.

The number of households awaiting a social home in Clare currently stands at 2,849.

Of these, 1,106 are in receipt of the Housing Assistance Payment, 237 are already availing of Local Authority Housing, 49 are supported by Associated Housing Bodies and 24 are on the Rental Accommodation Scheme.

This leaves Clare with a net housing need of 1,433 households which is up 10% from the figure of 1,299 this time last year.

Ennis remains the most in-demand area in the county, with a total of 1,232 households seeking a social home in the county town.

This is followed by Shannon, Clarecastle, the joint area of Inagh, Ennistymon and Lahinch, and Kilrush.

With 2,187 households looking for a one or two-bed property, they are the most soughtafter house type in the county, while 506 are seeking a three-bed home and 156 households are hoping to acquire a four or five-bed dwelling.
