Social Democrats Leader Claims Sláintecare Key To Fixing Midwest Healthcare

The leader of the Social Democrats insists the correct roll-out of Sláintecare is key to resolving issues around access to healthcare in the Midwest.

Holly Cairns made her comments ahead of a planned visit by the Health Minister Stephen Donnelly and HSE CEO Bernard Gloster to University Hospital Limerick today, though it’s understood the pair attended the Midwest facility last night.

The Mid-West Hospital Campaign group is due to hold a protest outside University Hospital Limerick from 10 o’clock this morning to coincide with the visit.

1,691 admitted patients were left waiting on trolleys at the region’s main hospital in March which was down 5% on the same month last year.

Speaking during a visit to Ennis, where she met with her party’s local election candidates, Deputy Cairns claimed the lack of meaningful progress at UHL can be blamed on a “lack of political will” to properly implement the Government’s overriding health policy.
