Smoky coal is to be effectively banned in Clare’s county town.
From August 1st of this year it will be illegal to market, sell, or distribute bituminous or "smoky" coal in Ennis and it’s environs.
The ban, announced by Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan, is aimed at reducing air pollution in urban areas.
Ennis Green party Councillor Brian Meaney has welcomed the ban, he says it will benefit everyone in the area.
