Hundreds of visitors, patients and staff at University Hospital Limerick have been defying a smoking ban there.

A total 215 people, including two members of the hospital's workforce, were found to be smoking at the hospital during 70 audits carried out in March of this year.

As part of a national policy, the campus first became a no-smoking zone in May 2012.

The numbers are lower than in previous audits, but the UL Hospitals Group says it's disappointed with the findings.
