Slight Reduction In Numbers Claiming Unemployment Benefit In Clare

The number of people claiming some form of unemployment benefit in Clare is continuing to fall.

The latest CSO figures indicate a 3% reduction in Live Register figures in this county in May.

4,215 people signed on in County Clare last month, according to the latest statistics from the Central Statistics Office.

This represents a drop of 162 on the previous month and is 561 fewer people than the same month last year.

The vast majority of those were in the Ennis area, where dole queues reduced by 29 to 2,128.

North Clare saw the biggest reduction in numbers though, with an additional 87 people claiming unemployment benefit, while in West Clare numbers decreased by 51.

In East Clare, numbers climbed marginally in May, with 5 additional people on the Live Register.

Nationally, just over 173 thousand people were signing on last month, with more than 107 thousand people on the register for less than one year.
