Clare’s building industry has shown a slight rebound in the second quarter of this year, with an increase in the number of planning permissions granted in the county.
However, new CSO figures the number of homes for which planning was granted is slightly down on an annual basis.
Planning permission was granted for a total of 56 new homes in Clare from April through to June of this year, up from 52 in the first three months of 2011
There was also an increase in permissions granted for other types of new building and for alterations – 28 non-residential homes and 22 conversions were given the go-ahead in the same period.
However, the number of extensions granted permission fell by 9 to 48 when compared to the start of the year.
There has, however, been a drop of 10 in the number of new homes given the green light when compared to the same period in 2010 while the figure is less than half of what was approved in the second quarter of 2009.
The overall scale of projects in Clare has declined significantly in the same time-frame.
In the second quarter of 2009, the total size of new homes granted permission were 43,000 square metres…. new homes allowed for the same time in 2011 are just one-third of this.
