Slight Drop In Clare Homeless Figures

Homelessness levels dropped slightly in Clare and the MidWest last month.

At the end of August there were 538 homeless adults and children in Clare and Limerick, down from 555 in the previous month.

There was a reduction of 4 in the number of homeless adults here, down to 68, and the Department of Housing figures also show a reduction of child homelessness in the region by 14.

The Department says it has again re-categorised over 1,600 people counted under the figures, saying they had wrongly been classified as being in emergency accommodation.

Homeless charities want the government to clear up this confusion.

Niamh Randall from the Simon Communities says the emergency accommodation figures are only one part of the problem.
