It’s the first year on year decrease recorded in Clare since 2017, outside years impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

1,063 total inspections were carried out last year, down from 1,105 in 2023, in spite of a nationwide increase of 26%.

However, there has been a marked increase over the course of the last decade with 25% more inspections last year than in 2019, while in comparison to 2014 there has been an 84% uptick.

805 of the properties examined in Clare last year were determined not to meet regulatory requirements, representing a failure rate of 76%.

Arising from this, 641 improvement letters were issued to landlords to remedy minor breaches, with three improvement notices served for more extensive works to the property.

One prohibition notice was served here based on the examinations last year, meaning the property can’t be let again until all breaches of regulation are rectified.
