Sláinte An Chláir Urging Clare Women To Know The Signs Of Gynaecological Cancers

Sláinte an Chláir is reminding women in Clare to be alert to the symptoms of gynaecological cancers and diseases.

Today is World Gynaecological Day which aims to make women aware of the five gynaecological cancers – ovarian, cervical, uterine, vulval and vaginal – and the risks that each poses.

Over 1,400 such cancers are diagnosed in Ireland each year and a recent survey carried out by Sláinte an Chláir revealed that 34% of women believe a smear test checks for all gynaecological illnesses when it in fact only checks for abnormal or precancerous cells in the cervix.

Cancer Support Nurse at Sláinte an Chláir Anne Murphy say it’s vital women can recognise the signs and symptoms of various cancers.
