The family of a Sixmilebridge man who have been campaigning for a public inquiry into his death over 30 years ago say their fight could now go to the UN or the European Court of Human Rights.
23-year-old Patrick Nugent died at Bunratty Folk Park in the early hours of February 11, 1984 – the jury in his inquest later found there had been a 'supression of evidence by witnesses' to the event.
The case was examined by an independent review established by the Minister for Justice, but this has been criticised by the Justice4All group who now want to take an appeal to the UN's Human Rights Council.
The Nugents' was one of those which was granted an inquiry following this review, but Patrick's sister-in-law Deirdre Nugent says even this falls short of the sworn public inquiry that they are seeking.
