Sixmilebridge Business Insists Energy Support Scheme Should Be Backdated

A South East Clare insists a new scheme aimed at supporting businesses who’ve suffered an increase in energy bills doesn’t go far enough.

The Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme is now open for registrations since the weekend, after the green light was given by the European Commission.

Those who qualify will receive up to 40% of additional costs they’re facing, but must demonstrate their average monthly unit price has increased by 50%.

While the scheme will initially run until the end of February, it could be extended by a further two months, but Flora Crowe of Crowe’s shop in Sixmilebridge believes payments should be backdated.
