The sister of a Clare woman who was violently killed 20 years ago say’s yesterday’s inquest verdict is the closest her family has got to justice.
The inquest into the death of Ennistymon native Emer O’Loughlin, whose remains were found in a burnt out mobile home near Tubber in 2005, has returned a verdict of unlawful killing – making it the first time the state body has acknowledged that a third party was involved in her death.
During the proceedings, Clare County Coroner Isobel O’Dea told the jury that retired Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis said in his post mortem conclusions that the injuries were “consistent with deliberate violence committed by a third party”.
Gardaí are still looking to speak to the owner of the mobile home, John Griffin, formerly of Mervue in Galway, who would now be 58 years old and whose whereabouts remain unknown.
Emer’s sister, Pam O’Loughlin, is hopeful someone with knowledge of Mr Griffin’s movements will now come forward.
