A trade union representing staff at Shannon Airport has criticised management there for the nature of their engagement with workers.

SIPTU aviation sector organiser Neil McGowan told the Oireachtas COVID-19 Committee that his union wants Shannon’s separation from the DAA to be reversed.

Both he and Evan Cullen of IALPA stated that they feel Aer Lingus withdrawal of services from Shannon, while continuing to operate out of Cork and Dublin, was a purely commercial one.

Mr. McGowan also insisted that the union wouldn’t accept Shannon plans for cost-cutting measures including redundancies and, in particular, pay cuts.
