Sinn Fein to lobby President Higgins if Water Services Bill passes through Seanad vote

Sinn Fein says it will petition the President if the Water Bill passes through the Oireachtas.

The party say they will seek to petition Michael D. Higgins not to sign the bill into law, and refer it to the Council of State, if it passes a vote in the Seanad tomorrow.

Sinn Fein say they are unhappy with the provision in the bill which includes a plebiscite on the issue of privatisation, and say that a constitutional referendum is necessary to ensure public ownership of Irish Water.

Debate on the Water Services Bill continues in the Upper House tomorrow afternoon, with a vote expected ay 6pm.
