A Sinn Fein TD says the IRA does not exist, and will not be reconvening in future.
Caomhghin O’Caolain was responding to calls by the Environment Minister on Gerry Adams to clarify that the organisation was fully disbanded.
Environment Minister Alan Kelly has called for clarity on whether the IRA remains in existence.
It’s after the PSNI chief constable George Hamilton said elements of the IRA were responsible for the murder of Kevin McGuigan in Belfast.
This afternoon, Sinn Fein TD Caomhghin O’Caolain said his party had been clear about the IRA, and reiterated their position.
Asked if Sinn Fein had confidence in George Hamilton, Deputy O’Caolain said he had the party’s support, but that he’s mistaken about the IRA.
