Simon Say HAP Shortcomings Partly To Blame For Homelessness Rise

Midwest Simon says the failure of the Housing Assistance Payment to keep pace with rising rents, is contributing to the homelessness problem in Clare.

The latest figures from the Department of Housing show the number of homeless adults in the county has almost doubled in March, compared to the same month last year.

Families in Clare can receive up to €550 in HAP payments, depending on their circumstances, but the average price of renting a home here is in excess of €600 a month.
