A Clare Senator says the signing of the Istanbul Convention marks an important milestone in providing better protection for victims of domestic violence.

Ireland's representative to the Council of Europe Convention, Ambassador Peter Gunning has signed on behalf of the country in Strasbourg.
It represents the country's committment to combating violence against women and domestic violence as part of an international effort.
Its the first step in the country's action plan which includes the implementation of the Domestic Violence Bill and Shannon-based Senator Tony Mulcahy, who has worked on proposals, says its a significant step.
