Shock Following Report Revealing Level Of Superbugs In UL Hospitals

Shock has been expressed over the continually high level of hospital superbugs in the Mid-West.

The UL Hospitals Group’s annual report has shown that while progress has been made intackling a number of bugs, there continues to be high incidence of one potentially serious infection across the five hospitals in the group.

62 cases of ESBL were recorded in the midwest region last year, while MRSA across the hospital group was above national targets.

Meanwhile, the level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital has dipped slightly today.

The INMO’s latest trolleywatch figures show 36 people were waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 16 of those in the new emergency department.

It’s 13 less than yesterday numbers waiting on admission there yesterday, though the Dooradoyle facility remains the second busiest hospital in the country.
