There has been a sharp drop in the number of people waiting for beds at the Region's main hospital today.
Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show five people were waiting on trolleys in the emergency department of University Hospital Limerick this mroning, while a further four are being accomodated in overflow areas.
It follows an unprecented rise in the number of people attending the Dooradoyle facility last week which resulted in waiting times of up to 18 hours in some cases.
Today's figures are in stark contrast with the national trend – 45 people are waiting on trolleys at Cork University Hospital and 42 at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
It comes as nurses are being balloted over the next three weeks on new proposals aimed at tackling overcrowding in Emergency Departments.
