Shannon Set For Post-Seperation Jobs Boost

The government looks set to claim that over 3,000 jobs will be created by the spin-off of Shannon Airport from the DAA.

The document, leaked to two national newspapers, has been submitted to government by task forces established to determine Shannon’s future.

It pin-points the Shannon area as a potential hub for aviation industry services, including training and maintenance facilities, and also calls for more use to be made of the airport’s US pre-clearance facilities.

Independence, it says, will allow Shannon to be more flexible in offering incentives to airlines, and it’s invisiged that the airport compete with Dublin and Knock for routes.

However, the report also stresses that keeping costs under control are vital in ensuring it’s long-term survival.

The Jobs and Transport Ministers will announce the government’s detailed plans for Shannon at an aviation conference in Dublin on Monday.  It’s anticipated this will include details of additional route development for Clare’s international airport.
