Shannon Senator Renews Calls For Improved Domestic Violence Laws

A Shannon Fine Gael Senator has renewed his calls for the government to introduce laws to deal with domestic violence.

Senator Tony Mulcahy, who told an Oireachtas Committee of how his own father was a "thug and a bully" in October of last year, is pressing for a number of new laws to be introduced, and for Ireland to ratify the Istanbul Convention on domestic violence.

The Justice Minister has told the Clare representative that new laws are being worked on, and that she's aiming for this process to be finished by the end of the year.

Senator Mulcahy feels it's vital that deadline is not missed.
