A Shannon Senator has confirmed his intention to seek re-election to the Seanad.

It follows a decision by the Fine Gael Executive Council on Saturday to appoint Deputy Mayor of Ennis, Councillor Mary Howard as the party’s third candidate in the upcoming General Election.
Senator Tony Mulcahy insists that while his preference was to run as a general election candidate, he accepts the decision to add Cllr Howard to the ticket alongside Deputies Pat Breen and Joe Carey.
He says he will now re-focus his energies on retaining his Seanad seat.
