Councillor John Crowe has requested an explanation for the downgrading of ShannonDoc saying it will have serious repercussions for the town and surrounding villages.
He believes people will now be forced to travel to Ennis or Limerick to see a doctor which he says will add to an already overstretched health system.
Councillor Crowe insists that removing the doctor from the biggest populated area in the county makes no sense.
