Shannon Residents Group Calling For ‘Action Plan’ On Emergency Accommodation Proposals For Town

The Chair of a new residents’ group set up in Shannon is calling for the Government to deliver an ‘action plan’ on emergency accommodation proposals for the town.

A committee has been set up in the town, with the group first meeting over the weekend, to represent residents on the matter in engagement with politicians and other stakeholders.

It’s understood a unit has been made available for refugee accommodation in the Shannon Business Park by the Office of Public Works, with work ongoing to bring the facility up to standard.

The Department of Integration’s told Clare FM that while no agreement has yet been reached with contractors to open the facility, it intends to ‘engage with local representatives to provide information’ once this happens.

Elaine Kingston, who’s Chair of the Shannon Residents Group, has been telling Clare FM’s Josh Prenderville that there are questions members of the community want answered.
