Shannon Resident Says Homeowners Are Fearing For Their Lives Due To Government Inaction

A Shannon-based spokesperson for the ‘Not Our Fault’ campaign claims local residents are fearing for their lives due to government inaction.

In January, Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien received approval for a full redress scheme, estimated to cost up to €2.5 billion, to carry out emergency works at defective Celtic Tiger era apartments.

A 2017 inspection of the Bru na Sionna complex in Shannon identified 240 such dwellings with major fire safety flaws, however the relevant homeowners are among those yet to receive any form of compensation.

Brú na Sionna resident, Lorraine Carew has been taking part in weekly protest outside the Dáil and she’s been telling Clare Fm’s Daragh Dolan that residents are sleeping in fear every single night.
