Shannon Resident Of Defective Celtic Tiger Home Criticises Lack Of Action On Interest Repayments

A Shannon resident of a defective Celtic Tiger era apartment has criticised the Government for failing to minimise their financial burden.

The Department of Housing has begun developing a pilot scheme to reimburse households who’ve had to fix structural, water ingress and fire safety flaws at houses and duplexes built between 1991 and 2013.

Up to 240 homes in Brú Na Sionna are affected and while the estate’s management company has progressed remedial works, the applicable interest levies that have to be repaid will not be covered by the state.

Resident Lorraine Carew says while this is understandable, the lack of action to reduce costs has led to severely distressing situations.
