Shannon records highest growth of any Irish airport

Shannon Airport recorded the largest rate of growth of any Irish Airport last year.

Confirmation of the extent of their Airport's growth comes as it scoops yet another award.

Figures released by the CSO show that just under 250,000 additional passengers passed through Shannon in 2014, representing an 18.9% annual increase.

In percentage terms, this is higher than any of Ireland's main or regional airports while the number of passengers at Shannon was at its highest leevl since 2009.

Three of the four busiest routes were to airports in London, with Heathrow on top, while over 120,000 passengers flew on the busiest transatlantic service of JFK Airport in New York.

Meanwhile, Shannon has been honoured for its promotion of sustainable and environmentally-friendly operations at The Aviation Industry Awards, which have been held in Dublin.

There was plenty of other Clare success on the night, as the Shannon-based firms GECAS, Eirtech Aviation and Aercap were all winners.
