Shannon continues to have the highest commercial vacancy rate in Munster.
The latest report from GeoDirectory shows the south Clare industrial town had a higher rate of vacant commercial buildings than any other urban centre in the province between April and June of this year.
The report reveals that Clare’s commercial vacancy rate in June was 15.8%.
This was higher than the national average of 14.6% and up slightly on the rate of 15.5% the county recorded in the same period of 2024.
Shannon’s rate of commercial vacancy rose by 1% to 30.8% in the space of a year, giving the town the highest rate of any urban centre in the county and in Munster, as well as the second-highest in the country.
Kilrush’s rate of vacant commercial units has reduced marginally to 24.3% which is the third-highest in the province and the 10th highest nationwide.
Commercial vacancy in Ennis has risen from 18.5% to 19.1% meanwhile, giving the county town the ninth-highest rate in Munster.
It’s also stated in the report that Clare now has 11 fewer commercial address points than it had in the period of April to June of 2024, with the figure now standing at 953.
