Calls have been made for Shannon Airport to be developed into an internationally recognised pilot training school.
Clare Fianna Fáil election candidate Councillor Clare Colleran Molloy believes facilities at the Mid-West Airport should be utilised in order to generate further economic growth in the region.
The number of jet planes in the world is expected to double over the next twenty years from 21,000 to 43,000 and Councillor Colleran Molloy is predicting a shortage in pilots as a result.
There is currently no training school in this country and the Ennis Councillor has been telling me that such a venture would lead to a multi-million euro investment coupled with a boost in employment.
